New Learning Opportunities from the Mercaz Dahan Center

For the first time, Mercaz is offering a summer learning opportunity for both men and women. Be a part of this wonderful program on July 16, 17 and 18 from 10 – 11:30 am in the Tuvin Library when Dr. Adele Berlin, Robert H. Smith Professor of Bible Emerita and former Director of the Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Maryland College Park, presents Women and War in the Book of Lamentations. This three-day program will provide an in-depth study of the book of Lamentations emphasizing the portrayal of women, literally and metaphorically in the description of the siege and destruction of Jerusalem.

BT IN THE AM PREVIEW: The Adult Beit Midrash for Women

This program is an opportunity for women of all backgrounds and levels of observance to think creatively while learning about their Judaism. Get a “taste” of these outstanding classes: “The Torah is Not In Heaven” presented by Mrs. Sara Lanner, 9 am; “Beginnings: Reflections of the Bible’s Intriguing Firsts” (the first love, the first death, the first laugh, the first dream, etc.) presented by Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg, Mrs. Zipora Schorr and Rabbi Chai Posner, 10 am; and “Suburbs, Social Change and Spirituality: Postwar American Judaism, 1945-2012” presented by Mrs. Laura Shaw Frank, 11 am. Yaffe Scholars Preview: Famous Disputes Throughout History

The Seymour Yaffe Scholars Program For Advanced Jewish Learning is a weekly Wednesday dinner program open to everyone interested in studying Jewish texts. The theme for the upcoming year is “Famous Disputes Throughout History.” Prospective participants are invited to preview the program on Wednesday, May 30 beginning with dinner at 6:30 pm. Bring your friends! Advance reservations required.
