Our third graders and their teachers enjoyed a scavenger hunt at Seven Mile Market, as a special way to wrap up their unit on brachot (blessings). Each team had to solve bracha riddles, like which traditional Chanukah food has the bracha of mezonot* and which fruits have the bracha of ha'adama**. Then things got personal, as each student searched for their favorite candy that requires a bracha of shehakol.
Along the way, students recorded the name of the food, the brand, and the kosher symbol. They even discussed which food do not require any certification, such as whole fruits or vegetables. Once again, the annual third grade Seven Mile Market scavenger hunt proved to be a fun and educational way for the students to review what they have learned about brachot! “It was fun splitting into groups and trying to find the mystery foods…we learned a lot of kosher symbols, like Star-K and OU,” reports Lila N. ’25.
The exciting excursion ended with a brachot party in class, where students reviewed the blessings and the proper order in which to recite them, before enjoying their treats!
