Between Israel and the Nations: Explorations of a Biblical and Talmudic Dialectic
Rabbinic literature is focused on developing a religious worldview and all encompassing lifestyle for Jews, and yet rabbinic texts were aware that Jews have always comprised no more than a small minority of humanity and, furthermore, lived alongside non-Jewish neighbors throughout the classic rabbinic period. In this session we will explore how the particular and specific focus of rabbinic literature on Jews and Judaism, also inculcates a universal sensitivity towards all human beings.
Rabbi Wolkenfeld is a Wexner Graduate Fellow and completed a term as a member of the Executive Committee of the Rabbinical Council of America. He served for several years as a vice-president of the International Rabbinic Fellowship and currently chairs its Membership Committee. His writing has been published in Tradition, The Lehrhaus, Milin Havivin, and the Huffington Post.
