For 100 years, the Beth Tfiloh community has stayed true to its mission: Providing an inclusive, welcoming Jewish environment, embracing and engaging a religiously diverse community, and supporting and celebrating Israel. From its founding in 1921 as the first synagogue in Baltimore’s Forest Park neighborhood to its home today in Pikesville, Beth Tfiloh has always been on the forefront of religious innovation and inclusion that balances Jewish law and tradition with the challenges and opportunities of modern life.

Beth Tfiloh has established an unparalleled legacy as a nexus of Jewish life in Baltimore. As the largest Modern Orthodox congregation in North America, our synagogue fosters personal growth while creating a lifelong sense of belonging. Through our extraordinary clergy and educators, and world-renowned educational programming for children and adults, Beth Tfiloh’s impact extends far beyond Old Court Road. Our school is the pipeline for future Jewish leaders, providing nearly 1,000 students each year with a rigorous education rooted in Torah and Jewish values.

Our centennial year, kicking off this fall, is the perfect time to unite the Beth Tfiloh community — our synagogue and school — with one visual identity.

This new look reflects Beth Tfiloh’s history, mission, culture and values. It celebrates our community’s proud legacy, its strength and vitality as a cohesive whole. It captures the energy and excitement of our limitless future.

    Reflecting On Our History
From its founding in 1921 as the first synagogue in Baltimore’s Forest Park neighborhood to its home today in Pikesville, Beth Tfiloh has always been on the forefront of religious innovation and inclusion that balances Jewish law and tradition with the challenges and opportunities of modern life.

    Looking Ahead to Our Future
Jewish life is constantly evolving. We must continuously adapt to meet the changing religious, spiritual, social, emotional, and educational needs of the next generation of Jewish children and adults.

That means making shul – on Shabbat, holidays, or any day of the week – as meaningful and welcoming as possible.

That means making our Jewish day school as competitive, accessible and effective as possible, so it remains an attractive option for the broadest swathe of our Jewish community’s children.

That means recruiting and retaining the highest caliber of educators and staff and investing in their professional growth.

That means making synagogue membership and Jewish day school tuition affordable, so that finances are never an obstacle to full communal participation.

That means making our physical space as inviting, comfortable and modern as possible, so that it reflects and fosters the excellence of our shul and school programs.

A New Look for a New Era of Beth Tfiloh
Our approaching centennial is the perfect time to unite the Beth Tfiloh community — our synagogue and school — with one visual identity. This new look reflects Beth Tfiloh’s history, mission, culture and values. It celebrates our Beth Tfiloh community’s strength and vitality as a cohesive whole and our proud legacy of joyful, inclusive Judaism. It captures the energy and excitement of our limitless future.

Our new visual identity captures our home’s most recognizable feature – the shul’s roof, the “big tent” that unites our inclusive, diverse community. The icon’s upward movement inspires both awe and excitement. The rooflines resemble hands reaching heaven-ward in unison towards a Jewish star, the historic symbol of the Jewish people.
It is under that iconic roof that our Beth Tfiloh community gathers to daven and hear words of inspiration on Shabbat and holidays. It is
where we celebrate milestones, like bris milahs and baby namings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and weddings. It is where we give our first graders their siddurim and shake their hands 11 years later as they receive their diplomas at high school graduation.

Stay tuned for details about this historic yearlong celebration! May we continue to celebrate many great achievements and joyful occasions under that roof for years to come.

Welcome to the new era of Beth Tfiloh!
