Rabbi David Silber, founder and dean of Drisha Institute for Jewish Education, is a nationally acclaimed lecturer on the Bible. He will offer his insightful and novel interpretations about the Joseph narrative throughout Shabbat.

Shabbat Day Sermon: “Understanding Our Dreams”

Class following kiddush: “Joseph the Egyptian, Joseph the Jew”
The book of Genesis concludes with the story of Joseph, who rises to prominence in Pharoah’s court. Through a set of close readings, we will explore the degree to which Joseph, the Jew in exile, maintains a Jewish identity.

Class following Mincha: “Judah: Paradigm of Jewish Leadership?”
At the end of his life Jacob confers the blessing of kingship upon his son Judah. We will analyze the character of Judah as reflected in this text to better understand the primary qualities of an ideal leader.
